Alice B. Toklas. Illustrated by Rene Gruau.

Wrappers. 28 pages. 8 full-page line drawings by Rene Gruau printed on rectos only, with the description on the verso of the preceding plate. 330 x 245mm (13 x 9¾"). 2.7kg. . A scarce portfolio of illustrations by Rene Gruau depicting Pierre Balmain's 1946 fashion collection. The Balmain fashion house was founded in 1945 and the collection shown here was one of their first. It was a precursor to Dior's New Look collection of 1947. The designs are beautifully illustrated by Rene Gruau and include 'Pour les Ballets des Champs Elysees', 'Pour le the au Ritz', 'Pour les courses de nuit de Longchamp', 'Pour diner a l'Ambassade' and 'Pour quitter l'Opera'.
