An issue of Dance Index devoted to the work of Picasso for the Ballets Russes. Between 1917 and 1925 Picasso designed the costumes and sets for five of Diaghilev's Ballets Russes productions - Parade, Le Tricorne, Pulcinella, Cuadro Flamenco and Mercure - as well as contributing backdrop designs. He drew the portraits of the dancers and artists, and married the Russian dancer Olga Khokhlova. Picasso and the Ballet examines the artist's contribution to each production, reproducing drawings, illustrations, archival photographs and essays by Apollinaire and Cocteau.
