Brussels. David Hicks. No date [c.1970s]. 37 loose printed colour designs for woollen decorative dhurries, all housed in card folder with printed labels pasted to front cover. Two sheets with prices and sizes loosely inserted. 320 x 250mm (12½ x 9¾"). 0.5kg. . English. Very good; card folder has light wear with some soiling, toning and creasing; the designs remain fresh, some have the David Hicks Belgium stamp on them, some have a David Hicks Belgium sticker to the margin, a few are initialled 'S.M.' in the margin, half have been clipped at the lower right corner for ease of viewing colour samples against them.An interesting collection of designs for dhurrie rugs supplied by the Belgium branch of David Hicks in Brussels. In total there are 13 different designs in various colourways. The most typical Hicks design is 'DH Boxes', this appears in 9 different colourways. Another design 'Checks' is marked as 'A Shyam Ahuja Exclusive'. Shyam Ahuja has been making dhurries in India for over 50 years. This design would have been licensed to Hicks. Other patterns include 'Shangri La', 'Venice' and 'Karman'. Many have the heavy graphic quality for which Hicks is known.
