Hockney first visited in Egypt in 1963 with a consignment from the Sunday Times Magazine to create a visual diary of his explorations. He used Alexandria as a back drop for his Cavafy etchings and in 1978 returned to Egypt to gain inspiration for his stage designs for Glyndebourne's Magic Flute. A scarce catalogue.
