During this period he took many photographs of the boys and their school, which were then edited into the book Eton. Macdonald is interested in examining a particular environment and its residents. He avoids the classic, touristy images of the school and presents a series of direct portraits of the boys and detailed photographs of the school's fabric. The whole is a moving and realistic portrait of a very specific and unique environment.
