Between 1949 and 1952 Frank commuted back and forth between America and France. Having spent periods away from his native Europe, Frank returned to it with a new visual sensitivity to the people and its landscape. Frank and Ute Eskildsen selected the best photos from this period for the book, many previously unpublished. The book contains an interview with the photographer and accompanied an European touring exhibition of the photographs.
