John Julius Norwich.

[Privately published.] 1985-2012; 2015; 2017. Majority of the volumes inscribed by Norwich on front wrapper to Sir Ronald Harwood and his wife. 30 volumes. Various plain and illustrated wrappers. [24 pages each.] English. 205 x 135mm. 1.6kg. . Near fine; a good, clean run.

A long run of John Julius Norwich's self-published Christmas pamphlets of prose and poems. The first Christmas Cracker was sent to Norwich's friends in 1970 and proved so popular that it's publication became an annual tradition until his death in 2018. Each issue contained an ecletic selection of poems, writings, quotes, word games, etc. gathered by Norwich throughout the year.

All of the volumes, apart from 1985-1991 and 1994, are inscribed to "Ronnie and Natasha with Christmas love John Julius". These volumes are from the library of Sir Ronald Harwood (1934-2020), playwright, screenwriter and author. 1990 is inscribed by the playwright Hugh Whitemore.

Together with The Illustrated Christmas Cracker, John Julius Norwich & Quentin Blake, Doubleday, 2002. A selection from the Crackers chosen and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
