David Hicks.

Leslie Frewin. London. 1966. First edition. Inscribed by Hicks in ink to front free-endpaper - 'For Vere / from David / November 1966'. Hardback; pink cloth-bound hardback with gilt titles, pink stripy dust jacket. 152 pages. Illustrated throughout with 120 b&w illustrations and 32 colour plates. English. 315 x 245mm. 1.1kg. . Very good, in good dust jacket; some yellowing to jacket as usual, small abrasion to front panel, light wear and staining to rear top forecorner, 3mm has been trimmed from the top and bottom edges by a previous owner so the jacket sits slightly short; spotting to endpapers and page edges.

The first volume in David Hick's classic series of design volumes, with the iconic stripy dust jacket. Hicks brings his own style and taste to the reader, using examples and photographs of projects he has completed as guidance. The book includes chapters on colour, furniture, fabrics and carpets, lighting, kitchens, bathrooms, halls, staircases and rumpus rooms, accessories, gardens, and luxury. This copy is inscribed to 'Vere', perhaps Vere Parr, the mother of fellow decorator Tom Parr.
