George Hoyningen-Huene's war-time photo book tribute to ancient Greece. His artful photographs of ancient monuments and sculptures are placed alongside prose and poetry from ancient and modern writers. Hoyningen-Huene channels the same classical mastery of form and light that he gives to his fashion photographs, stating 'I wanted to interpret ancient buildings and ancient sites and glamorize them, just as I have done with beautiful women.' The book was published to raise funds for the Greek War Relief Association and the words 'Buy War Bonds for Victory' grace the rear jacket. [Ewing. The Photographic Art of Hoyningen-Huene. pp. 137-38]
