The first volume of the diaries of 'Chips' Channon, covering the society and politics of inter-War Britain. Channon was an American-born Conservative MP, married to Honor Guinness. He had access to the worlds of both politics and society and his diaries are filled with musings on the events of the inter-War years, from the Abdication, the Munich Crisis to the antics of the Bright Young Things. The diaries, full of explosive detail, were left to the British Museum with instructions that they should not be read until 60 years after his death. An abridged censored version of the diaries was published in 1967. Two further volumes are planned.
