The second volume of the diaries of 'Chips' Channon, covering the war years. Channon was an American-born Conservative MP, married to Honor Guinness. He had access to the worlds of both politics and society and his diaries from 1938 to 1943 are filled with entries concerning the political scene during the first few years of the second world war, as well as reflections, musings and gossip on his encounters with British and European society. The diaries, full of explosive detail, were left to the British Museum with instructions that they should not be read until 60 years after his death. An abridged censored version of the diaries was published in 1967. One final volume is planned.
