Preface by Jean Cocteau. Photographs by Roger Schall.

Paris. Editions Arts et Metiers Graphiques. 1937. First edition. Illustrated wrappers. [70] pages. 57 black-and-white photogravure plates, plus endpapers and wrappers. 250 x 195mm (9 x 7"). 0.3kg. . French. Fair; spine of wrapper has almost disintegrated (as is common with this title), old tape repairs to spine neatly reattaching front wrapper, light wear and some creasing to wrappers, internally good.

A "sequel" to Brassai's Paris de Nuit, published four years later by the same publisher. Schall's Paris de Jourmirrors what Brassai achieved in his ground-breaking photobook but with less technical panache. Photographs of the familiar landmarks of Paris are placed alongside traditional streets scenes of shoppers, diners, workers and tourists. Jean Cocteau provides a pithy preface.
