John Cornforth's study of John Fowler and his influence on the Country House style. The Inspiration of the Past looks at the general taste in country house decorating during the twentieth century and then focusses on the work of John Fowler. Fowler was the leading figure in restoration and period decoration, and worked extensively for the National Trust. The black and white images are from Country Life and the colour photos taken for the publication by Timothy Beddow.
