Untitled Film Stills collects together a small body of early work created by Cindy Sherman in the late 1970s. Forty black and white images are illustrated, each one featuring and directed by Sherman. The photographs are intended as sharp parodies of the stills used for movie posters, and feature an array of female stereotypes - the sexy librarian, the woman in peril, the unfaithful housewife. They reveal Sherman's solitary, cool and penetrating ability to assume alternative identities. [Parr & Badger. The Photobook: A History Volume II. p.42]
