A monograph on the life and work of the American-born artist Romaine Brooks (1874-1970). Brooks spent the majority of her life living and working in Europe, including in Capri, London, St. Ives, Paris and Nice. She was the partner for several years of the Parisian expatriate Natalie Barney and was well-known in homosexual circles. Her portraits frequently depict women in androdgynous dress and sensual nudes. The dancer Ida Rubinstein was a muse. Amazons in the Drawing Room reproduces many of Brooks' paintings and drawings, accompanied by critical text. The hardback edition.
