Hugo Vickers' account of the journeys he made and the people he met whilst writing the authorised biography of Cecil Beaton. The author draws on the diaries he kept during 1980 to 1985. The pages are filled with meetings with the leading lights of twentieth century society including the Queen Mother, Grace Kelly, Truman Capote, Stephen Tennant, Irving Penn, Horst, Lady Diana Cooper and Diana Vreeland. Writing Beaton's biography was a personal journey for the young Vickers and the diary entries bring back a vanished world, complemented by the snapshots from the author's personal collection.
