The transcribed journal of an unnamed lady from the eighteenth century, dated from 1772 to 1775. The author is an unmarried mother, she is independent, intelligent, and clear-sighted. The book's jacket has an early design by Rex Whistler, depicting a mother with a cherubic son within a pastoral setting. This copy is Whistler's own copy, with his ink signature and date to the title-page. From the library of John Haddon Frowd Holman Sutcliffe, painter and architectural historian, with his bookplate. Scarce with the dust jacket.
