The catalogue for an exhibition of the important collection of Ballets Russes costumes held at the National Gallery of Australia. 150 costumes and accessories are illustrated, often accompanied by detailed close-ups, archival photographs and programme illustrations. The majority of the pieces are from Diaghilev's era but several are from Colonel de Basil's troupe. There are essays on the designers, the Australian tour of the Ballets Russes in 1936-40 and a fascinating chapter on 'Sights unseen: tags, stamps and stains'.
